Ear To The Street
The Aftermath
Monday Sept 2, 2013 - New Carrollton, MD
It would appear that Familiar Faces showed us that they are clearly the promoter's choice when it comes to putting on a show when the air is cloudy with an array of flyers that point the local clientele to various locations around the DC Area during the busy holiday campaigns. Sunday, Familiar Faces headlined a show at the Metro Points Hotel, where they were preceeded by Wisdom Speeks Band and Show, and MsYendy and the Affiliated Project. Familiar Faces did what Familiar Faces does when there is a hint of strong promotions pushing their appearance at any venue. They attract a large audience, and they put on a show that would even make a librarian work the walls; with one leg up, even.
They came out with the usual mellow R&B sound to gets the ladies throwing a hand in the air while they look down at their feet to make sure they got their steps together. It wasn't long before they revved it up and got the crowd bouncing to a banging Go-Go beat. Their second set hit harder than the first, and D. Floyd kicked it into high gear as he had the whole crowd swinging their hands from side to side as it seemed that he was preparing for a crowd rocking finale. Unfortunately, his closing loss steam when the power went out leaving him and his band with nothing more than the banging sounds of the drums and timbales.
BoJack and Go-Go Mickey played side by side trying to keep the dancing crowd in tact, hoping the sound would kick back in, but it just wasn't to be. After nearly 8 minutes of straight killing the drums, D. Floyd acknowledged defeat and waved his guys off, disgusted at not being able to finish things off with a bang.
Wisdom Speeks had a similar problem, but his outage lasted for thirteen minutes towards the beginning of his band's performance. But when the power came back on, Wisdom Speeks lit the stage up with a set that had the crowd asking for more. The sound was not as clear as it was for Familiar Faces, but the band's performance was so tight that nothing could distort the fact that they have arrived and is the band to see. Many of the people who came early out of curiosity found themselves bobbing their heads and two stepping to the original cuts that Wisdom Speeks was rolling off, one song after another. Seldom do you see a band for the first time and get a show that makes you feel like you're watching stars on stage. These guys and one lady, Dana Renee are going places.
