Decade of DC Boxing Champions

Washington D.C. has long been known for being the home of the President of the United States, the center of the Anglo-Saxon Empire, Go-Go music, as well as some of the most renowned boxers that boxing has ever known.

The laundry list of boxer is extensive from Sugar Ray Leonard to the Peterson Brothers. And, no one will argue that Leonard is the greatest boxer to come out of Washington whether it's in light of boxing skills, prize fight earnings, or just being a fan favorite, no single fighter has eclipsed the impression Ray left on the world of sports.

However, there was a group of boxers that hailed from the Washington D.C. Area that accomplished something that no other city may ever be able to boast. In the 1990's boxing witnessed a string of native Washington boxers that dominated the sport in almost every weight class. Though Hasim Rahman was from Baltimore, even he trained for Lennox Lewis in Palmer Park, Md (Sugar Ray Leonard Gym) and was laid out during a sparring match by another local heavyweight, Moe Grey.
