The Big Showdown
This Labor Day Weekend will be a time of change, a time of reckoning. There is a war about to take place. Familiar Faces is taking the stage with Wisdom Speeks and MsYendy, while Suttle Thoughts is taking the stage with EU and Sugar Bear along with Be'la Dona. Both bands have had their positions on top. Suttle Thoughts, in the past has been the fan favorites. Familiar Faces, with its line up of the who's who of Go-Go, is the current fan favorite.
Both have a decent line up opening acts clearing the way for them. So, let's consider Suttle's opening acts first. Be'la Dona; they are clearly a very well received band by all who love Go-Go. Who can hate on an all girl band that actually cranks and really know how to play. But, MsYendy is definately a star in her own right. This woman can sing for real and can really give the crowd a show that they won't soon forget. The promoters of these shows are dead on when it comes to an opening act, but in our opinion Be'la Dona has the edge.
Now, let's move on to the next act. Sugar Bear. Need we say more? Sugar Bear rocks the party like few people in the world can. He knows how to make the crowd dance. He knows when to bring in the right groove that will keep the people moving, and he is simply a draw. People who love EU and Sugar Bear will not want to see anybody else. Those people are just fans of that combination, Period! But Familiar has the new monster on the block on their side. Wisdom Speeks is probably the least well known on the entire roster of performers, but absolutely not the least appealing.
Wisdom Speeks Band & Show needs an entire article of their own to give you a sense of how deserving they are to be discussed in this converstion. Wisdom Speeks has such a powerful performance that the band calls each show an injection into the soul of all people who experience them for the first time. And we at Garsone Productions can honestly say, that that's not an overstatement. They play virtually ALL original music and give a performance that most other bands just can't follow. Deadly!! Familiar Faces and the promoters win here.
Now, let's compare the headliners.
Consider Suttle Thoughts. They were sitting on top of the world not long ago. They had more than a 10 year run at the Takoma Station with about 5 of those years on top of the world. Suttle Thoughts was absolutely killing the DC band circuit, and no one was able to stand in front of their crashing wave. Now, they are a little more than a drip in a deluge. They are losing one of their longest standing staples, Ali. It seems that Walker Redds is doing something different too, and according to what their own fans are saying, Wisdom Speeks ended their career at Takoma Station . What's really going on??? Nobody seems to know. We'll have to return to this conversation at another time after doing some fact finding, but one thing that is a fact, Suttle still cranks. But is their performance still strong enough to surmount the mountainous region of legends in the Familiar Faces camp?
Familiar Faces is holding a loaded 12-gauge. Donnell Floyd, Mickey, Bo Jack, and Scooby just to name a few. How on earth do you get a line-up stacked like that? I just don't understand. How can you lose? And if you've ever seen these guys play, you know they have a swagger about themselves that says that they know they're the stuff! And their performance along with the relentless number of familiar songs to go along with all the familiar faces playing them never fails to give the crowd what they came to see. To put is plain, Suttle loses again.
It is clear that the promoter Appropriate Mike has his work cut out for him going up against Big L, Frank White, Everyday, and DaLand Entertainment companies. We believe Appropriate Mike can pull it off though, but the way it looks, it's going to be really hard. Afterall, both venues are nearly a stone's throw from each other. That means virtually everybody in the DC Area will be in New Carrollton, MD on Sunday, September 1 Labor Day Weekend. Which show will you come out to see? Let's get ready to rumble.
One camp was smart enough to have right here with Garsone Productions...
